Sorbitol was orginally gained from the mountain ash, which contains up to 12 percent sorbitol. However, it also occurs in many other kinds of fruits, such as pears, plums, apples, apricots, peaches, raisins as well as all dried fruits. Sorbitol is plant-based sugar alcohol made out of fruits with moisturizing properties.
Sorbitol is also able to keep water molecules on the skin surface and thus, facilitates the function of the natural moisturising factors. The latter are substances which are located in the upper skin layer and bind water. This way, they regulate hydration and help to maintain a good skin condition. Sorbitol is extraordinaly well tolerated and does not stick to the skin.
Sorbitol is admitted for certified natural cosmetics.
