Cetearyl alcohol is of plant origin and is mixture of cetyl and stearyl alcohols. These are classified as fatty acids as they are gained from vegetable fats and oils. They are used in many pharmaceutical products such as oinments, eye ointments, nasal ointments, vaginal creams, sun creams etc. In contrast to ethyl alcohol, cetearyl alcohol is not dehydrating but a hydrating alcohol.
